Know the Facts: How Legalizing Marijuana May Impact the Opioid Epidemic in New Jersey

October 23, 2020 | 9:00 am - 1:15 pm

With the legalization of marijuana on the table, there are a number of implications for social work and psychiatry practice. While there are many opinions on this controversial topic, in the shifting landscape of addiction treatment it is essential for professionals, community members, and parents to know the facts.

This conference will take a biopsychosocial approach to understanding the various forms of addiction, with an emphasis on opioids and cannabis. The presentation will include a medical overview of the neuroscience involved with addiction and treatment, the social and ethical implications of the legalization of marijuana, and conclude with a panel discussion featuring experts in psychiatry, social work, and addiction.
