Moral Reconation Therapy Group: Reducing anger, improving relationships

The CarePlus Anger Management group is a program for youth who show difficulty with anger and engage in delinquent or impulsive behaviors.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a cognitive-behavioral counseling program that combines education, group and individual counseling, and structured exercises in the form of homework assignments in order to address beliefs and reasoning in relation to their anger.

Program Goals:

Throughout this 10-session program, participants will work to:

  • Improve anger management skills
  • Reduce angry outbursts
  • Alleviate impulsive behavior
  • Increase social skills
  • Improve interpersonal relationships

These goals will be met through use of:

  • Hassle logs
  • Role-plays
  • Rehearsing situations
  • Real world scenarios
  • Co-occurring parent groups that provide parenting strategies

About the facilitators…

John Paul Simon, LMFT

Facilitator for Anger Management

John Paul Simon is a Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in working with youth and family issues. He attended Seton Hall University where he earned his Master’s of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy.

John is a clinician who provides counseling services to youth at-risk of re-hospitalization. John uses a multimodal approach to therapy, placing emphasis on structural therapy and family-centered foundations for change. His contributions and experience at CarePlus continues to grow. In addition to his clinical role, he facilitates the CarePlus Anger Management group for adolescents. John is also leading a new program focused on alleviating symptoms of Hoarding Disorder. He is looking forward to continuing his work with the Anger Management Program to reduce incidents of aggressive behavior in youth.

Steve Caraccio, LSW

Facilitator for Anger Management

Steve Caraccio is a Licensed Social Worker who specializes in working with adolescents and families. Steve attended Rutgers State University where earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Steve has been working with CarePlus as a Case Manager with Children’s Mobile Response and Stabilization Services since 2014. Steve has significant experience working with a wide variety of youth and families with behavior challenges. Steve is a trained clinician in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Structural Therapy. Steve is thrilled to be co-facilitating the Anger Management groups and enjoys the ability in providing support for youth struggling with anger management challenges.

Tatiana Garcia, LAC

Parent Facilitator

Tatiana is a Licensed Associate Counselor in the state of NJ. She attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice where she obtained a Master of Arts in Forensic Mental Health Counseling. Tatiana is a Care Plus clinician in the CHIP program, providing counseling services to help prevent the psychiatric re-hospitalization of children and adolescents.  She utilizes aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in individual sessions and places a strong focus on Structural Family Therapy when working with youth and their families.  Tatiana has been working at Care Plus since 2011 and has provided clinical and case management services for both adults and children.  Tatiana is excited to facilitate the parent group and hopes to help guide parents in providing their children with the support and guidance to help their children acquire healthy coping skills.
