On March 20th, 2017, Jonathan B. Singer, Ph.D., LCSW will be speaking at Bergen Community College for the Care Plus NJ Foundation, Inc. 2017 Annual Conference. The presentation, entitled “Lives Worth Living: Creating an Ecology of Wellness for individual identity population group Youth In School”, will enlighten professionals and community members on how to create safe spaces by cultivating sensitivity and awareness.

Jonathan B. Singer is an associate professor specializing in suicide prevention, bullying, family-based interventions, and social work practice. He is the author of over 45 publications, the host of the Social Work Podcast, and co-author of the book Suicide in Schools: A Practitioner’s Guide to Multi-Level Prevention, Assessment, Intervention and Postvention (School-Based Practice in Action) – which will be available for purchase at the conference.

“Every year we aim to bring relevant information to our community with this event,” stated Care Plus NJ Senior Vice President, Tara Augustine. “These topics have been showing up all over the news, and we feel it is important for everyone to pay attention to ensure that all children feel safe, and that we as a community know what to do when someone feels hopeless.”

As an representative of technology, Singer started The Social Work Podcast to provide information on all things social work in a user-friendly format. Although the podcasts target those in that work in the field of social work, the various topics benefit anyone in a helping profession, as well as parents and guardians.

“When we were planning the event and speaking with Jonathan, we were taken by his charisma and passion,” Augustine continued. “His genuine care and concern not only enhance his broad knowledge and expertise, but also align with our compassionate approach to providing resources and services.”

The Annual Conference is intended for social workers, school counselors, child study team members, school nurses, Behavioral Health professionals, parents, guardians, family members, caregivers who work with children and the general public.

The event is approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors for 4.5 Continuing Education clock hours. The registration price of $75 includes breakfast, lunch and a resource fair that will feature local exhibitors in related fields of interest.

“We hope that our community members agree that we have picked a topic worthy of considerable attention and that they will support our efforts in bringing this valuable opportunity to Bergen County,” Augustine concluded.

In substance use recovery learning self efficacy (self-belief), challenging negative beliefs, creating a positive mindset, and investing in new values gained from addressing one’s substance use disorder and Behavioral Health issues – improves oneself, relationships, and the future.

Every patient at Care Plus NJ has access to Behavioral Health professionals, including psychiatrists, and psychologists. In addition, each is assigned a case manager, drug and alcohol counselor, and peer recovery specialist who play a pivotal role in the treatment process.

As a Behavioral Health professional, they guide education, group therapy and support groups and other Behavioral Health services as indicated based on each persons needs.
