This prestigious annual award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact on healthcare in New Jersey. For over 45 years, Care Plus NJ has been a cornerstone of integrated primary and behavioral health services in Bergen County, and has extended its reach to Passaic and Essex counties for more than 20 years. Each year, Care Plus NJ supports over 14,000 children, adults, and families through a varied range of more than 80 programs.

The tireless efforts of our health care heroes include: health care professionals, essential workers, frontline workers, and medical professionals that address a wide range of health care needs including mental illness, substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. We have 49 locations including outpatient centers, residential facilities and community offices to ensure patients have access to our healthcare staff and services.

Services

Care Plus NJ ’s health care workers offer a wide range of services to support individuals throughout their Behavioral Health and addiction recovery. Services include:

Crisis Services:

24/7/365 mobile crisis teams, emergency crisis intervention and crisis stabilization.

Screening and Assessment:

Screening, assessment and diagnosis to develop patient centered treatment plans.

Outpatient Services:

Behavioral Health and substance use disorder (SUD) services, primary care screening and monitoring.

Rehabilitation and Support:

Psychiatric rehabilitation, peer support and family support services.

Social and Housing Services:

Support with social and housing needs for armed services members and veterans.

Accessibility to Public health Will Save Lives

Brigitte Johnson, Esq., President and CEO of Care Plus NJ said, “Behavioral Health issues affect almost everyone in some way. But not everyone faces the same level of vulnerability or has the same ability to seek and get treatment so many who are suffering go without the help they need.” Johnson added, “At Care Plus NJ our staff is always working to increase access to quality, compassionate Behavioral Health and addiction services for everyone who needs it, no matter what their circumstances; it’s an honor for us to be recognized by NJBIZ.”

Partnerships and Programs

Care Plus NJ’s Behavioral Health services include partnerships with Integrity House and Rutgers Medical School to create Care Plus Bergen. We also partner with law enforcement on various initiatives such as Crisis Intervention Team Training, Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program, ARRIVE Together and the 988 Mobile Crisis Outreach Response Team. These partnerships provide immediate help to individuals in crisis and overall community health.

In 2018 Care Plus NJ opened the Paradigm School System for individuals 12-21 to address emotional and behavioral needs. Through the NJ4S Bergen program with Children’s Aid and Family Services and other community providers Care Plus NJ continues to offer support services to students and families.

Workforce Solutions and Social Impact

Care Plus NJ Workforce Solutions, a non-profit subsidiary of Care Plus NJ, is dedicated to improving Behavioral Health through employment and training opportunities for individuals with functional limitations and those facing economic challenges. By addressing social determinants of health, it offers comprehensive support services, including employment, education, housing, and financial assistance, to enhance overall community well-being.

Belief

Belief refers to the confidence, faith, and conviction that individuals have in their ability to overcome addiction, make positive changes in their lives, and maintain long-term recovery. In substance use recovery learning self efficacy (self-belief), challenging negative beliefs, creating a positive mindset, and investing in new values gained from addressing one’s substance use disorder and Behavioral Health issues – improves oneself, relationships, and the future.

Every patient at Care Plus NJ has access to Behavioral Health professionals, including psychiatrists, and psychologists. In addition, each is assigned a case manager, drug and alcohol counselor, and peer recovery specialist who play a pivotal role in the treatment process.

As a Behavioral Health professional, they guide education, group therapy and support groups and other Behavioral Health services as indicated based on each persons needs.

Motivation refers to the internal drive, desire, and commitment of an individual to initiate and sustain positive changes in their behavior, lifestyle, and overall well-being. It is a crucial factor in the C.L.I.M.B. recovery process, as overcoming addiction often requires significant effort, perseverance, and a genuine commitment to change.

Motivated individuals in recovery set clear and realistic goals for themselves. Utilizing the stages of change model, Care Plus NJ walks patients through various stages of a substance use disorder, including precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and relapse prevention. Understanding these stages helps individuals navigate their unique recovery journey.

Insight refers to a deep and clear understanding of oneself, one’s behaviors, and the factors contributing to substance abuse. It involves gaining awareness into the root causes of addiction, recognizing patterns of behavior, and developing a clearer understanding of the impact of substance use on various aspects of one’s life. Insight is a critical component of the recovery process as it provides a foundation for positive change and sustained recovery.

Insight involves exploring the underlying issues that may contribute to drug abuse, such as past severe psychological distresss, Behavioral Health issues, or unresolved emotional challenges. Addressing these root causes is essential for long-term recovery.

Repairing relationships damaged by substance use often involves acts of love, forgiveness, and rebuilding trust.

In essence, love in the context of substance use recovery encompasses self-love, support from others, understanding, accountability, community, rebuilding relationships, and a renewed appreciation for life.
