Description

This presentation focuses on empowering Black and Hispanic maternal mental health through a comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach to care. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), including their types, symptoms, and impact on individuals and families. The presentation will also explore the historical and ongoing effects of implicit bias and inequitable healthcare practices on marginalized communities, particularly Black and Hispanic women and birthing people during the perinatal period. Finally, participants will learn about recent progress in maternal mental health and identify key areas where further work is needed to promote accessible, anti-racist, trauma-informed care for these populations.
