On Tuesday, December 12th at the 10 year anniversary New Jersey Crisis Intervention Team (CIT-NJ) forum, our own Amie Del Sordo, CarePlus VP of Hospital and Community Services, was presented as the 2017 CIT Coordinator of the Year during the CIT-NJ Center for Excellence Award Ceremony.
Amie Del Sordo (LCSW, CIT-NJ Class #75 in Warren County) is a dedicated licensed clinician who began her journey in social work in 1997. Throughout her career, she has specialized in providing mental health crisis services to adults and children with mental illness, and has devoted her efforts to serving individuals with serious and persistent mental illness in the community setting.
Amie was recently promoted to Vice President of Hospital and Community Services at Care Plus NJ, a position gives her oversight of several community based programs and leadership that are working to improve the patient experience, community relations and transitions to comprehensive care upon discharge from New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, NJ. Amie has worked in the crisis response setting as the Director of the Care Plus NJ Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program (262-HELP) for Bergen County for the last five years, and as a certified Mental Health Screener for the past 14 years.
Her experience and ability to build collaborative relationships with law enforcement and mental health providers, paired with her passion and persistence in her work, has made Amie successful in bringing the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training to Bergen County. Since she was elected to be the Bergen County Mental Health CIT Coordinator in June 2016, over 150 law enforcement and mental health professionals have been trained. Beginning in 2018, Amie has committed to providing 4 CIT trainings each year, training over 120 law enforcement officers and mental health practitioners annually.
Amie’s received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Corrections from York College of Pennsylvania. She completed her Master’s in Social Work at Kean University, and is also a Certified School Social Worker in the state of New Jersey. Her past experiences in the mental health field include: working at SERV Centers of New Jersey in a residential /assisted living setting as a Case Manager and Counselor with the adult co-occurring population; as a Senior Behavioral Health Crisis Counselor at Saint Clare’s Hospital; on the in-patient Children’s Crisis Intervention Unit (CCIS) with children and their families; and as a Clinician at Immediate Care Children’s Psychiatric Center, an intensive out-patient program with children and their families.
Amie is dedicated to ensuring Bergen County residents receive the best behavioral health care with the most clinically appropriate interventions, which will be accomplished through ongoing education, training and collaboration with law enforcement and mental health providers.
