Care Plus NJ, Inc. (CarePlus) of Paramus has released their new workshop schedule for the 2013-2014 season. The schedule starts off with a workshop on Motivational Interviewing, a one-day course offering six clinical CEUs for social workers. Other workshops include Mental Health First Aid training, Suicide Awareness, LGBTQ Cultural Awareness, and Behavior Management for At-Risk Youth. A complete schedule is available at the CarePlus website at https://www.careplusnj.org/workshops.
The workshops are designed for a variety of audiences; in particular, those with an interest in mental health care topics. All workshops will include continuing education units or CEUs for those in the social work field. There are no prerequisites to attend.
CarePlus Innovations – the training and education arm of CarePlus – offers workshops and customized programs for individuals, organizations, schools, and community groups. Their annual workshop schedule runs from September through May.
The first workshop – Motivational Interviewing: New Strategies for Client Engagement – is one that will be attractive to those in the mental health field, such as social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and others in health care who interact with clients on a regular basis.
Motivational interviewing is a counseling approach that recognizes and accepts that clients who seek change in their lives approach counseling at different levels of readiness to change behavior. The approach increases clients’ awareness of the results and consequences of the behavior in question. Therapists can then help clients envision a better future, thereby increasing motivation to achieve it.
The workshop – being held on Monday, September 16th from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm at the CarePlus Paramus headquarters – will be led by Joel Levine (LCSW, LPC, LCADC, LMFT), who has over 10 years of experience in the field of social work as both a therapist and educator. Levine is also a therapist at CarePlus.
The cost to attend the Motivational Interviewing workshop is $65 and includes six clinical CEUs. CarePlus offers online registration at their website.
Additional information on each of the workshops can be found on the CarePlus website at https://www.careplusnj.org/workshops or by calling (201) 797-2660 ext 110.
