CarePlus mourns the death of George Floyd. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and all who are grieving at this time. We also acknowledge the countless other African Americans who have lost their lives to police brutality. We want to assure our employees and the communities we serve, that CarePlus is committed to maintaining a culture of social justice, advocacy and change.
CarePlus Management and our Board of Directors stand in solidarity with protestors across the globe. We all seek an end to the root causes of the senseless and cruel homicide of the past week, and the centuries of discrimination which has sadly been part of our common history. We are here to support our communities with cultural competence and compassion.
Racism is embedded into the fabric of our society. It is the work of all citizens to address this issue and bring it to an end. CarePlus is dedicated to effective change and hope for the future. We know it is essential that we engage in constructive dialogue to best serve our community.
We have decided to be proactive in our approach to addressing this issue, through the establishment of two groups: a committee on cultural competence, and an open discussion forum. The primary purpose of the committee is to establish and oversee the forum for our colleagues to connect, share and grieve together.
The committee on cultural competence will also serve in an ongoing basis to educate on issues including systemic racism, implicit bias, white privilege and other disparities, including the effect COVID-19 is having on communities of color.
This is an important service to CarePlus and to our community. We are proud of our employees who started this conversation, and thank them for their leadership.
Sincerely,
Joseph Masciandaro Brigitte D. Johnson, Esq.
