CarePlus was recently awarded a $400,000 federal grant to help prevent suicide during the pandemic, with a focus on essential workers and domestic violence victims.
The grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will fund the Bergen County Suicide Prevention and Response Program at a time when cases of anxiety and depression are on the rise. The program is a partnership between Care Plus NJ, which provides integrated primary and behavioral health services, and Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, the state’s largest hospital and nursing home.
The grant will also support training for treatment providers, including hospitals and first responders. The training will help providers become more comfortable working with at-risk individuals and asking the tough questions necessary for mitigating crises.
