Free Community Event for Suicide Awareness and Loss Survivors

In honor of the 40th annual World Suicide Prevention Week, Care Plus NJ, Inc. (CarePlus) will hold a free community event to increase awareness, aid in prevention, and remember individuals lost to suicide. The event will take place on September 8, 2014 in Paramus.

Peace. Together. was designed to connect members of the community who share the common goal of preventing suicide, including those who have lost someone to suicide, as well as those with an interest in learning about services available to aid in the prevention of suicide.

The event will include an opening ceremony, a screening of the short film Trevor, information and resources on mental illness, and a professional panel discussion.

Members of the panel include: Jamisin Saracino, CarePlus Community and Educational Liaison, Training and Awareness Coordinator: GLS Suicide Prevention Program, Founder of A.N.G.E.L. Initiative, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Board Member, and Child Survivor of Suicide Loss; Sue Heguy, CarePlus Clinical and Educational Trainer, Intervention Specialist, and Bergen County’s Traumatic Loss Coalition Youth Trauma Responder Coordinator; Michele Weinberg, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Board Member, Parent Survivor of Suicide Loss, and Prevention Advocate/Educator; and Jamie Myre, Teen Advocate, Peer Mentor, Author and Friend Survivor of Suicide Loss.

“We invite the community to join us for this very important event,” said Jamisin Saracino. “According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, an estimated 38,000 people die in the U.S. alone by suicide; and according to the National Council for Behavioral Health, one out of four people will experience a mental health problem in any given year. Just like other disease such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, mental illnesses are treatable and suicide can be prevented. It’s time to have open and honest conversations about suicide and prevention strategies. It’s time to silence the stigma that surrounds it,” Saracino continued.

Peace. Together. will take place on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:00PM at the CarePlus headquarters located at 610 Valley Health Plaza, Paramus, NJ. Space is limited, so please register to reserve your seat. The organizers have asked attendees to arrive at 5:15 as the doors will be closed promptly at 5:30 for the opening ceremony.
